Star Trek: Eventide 777
USS Sebastion / command-module

Ensign Rousseau Avignon | MED BOT 30-Apr-22 09:07 PM
The doctor showed up in the command section of the ship. He was happy to have been selected for this mission. He had a wide smile across his face as he settled down at a station.

Eshen stepped into the command module just in time.

Avignon pulled a brownie out of his bag and walked into engineering to explore the ship. He was hungry but he also wanted to see everyone so he simply decided to eat and walk.

Oh, Eshen had thought maybe it was bad practice to wander from his post, but seeing Avignon COMM the other ship, he realised if he stayed in here where nothing was happening, he'd have no idea what the hell was going on. He got up and wandered into Engineering, where it sounded like all the action was happening.

Eshen walked back in. "Avignon? I have a lovely view for you to see. And by lovely, I mean there are dead people outside. Also, hold on -" Eshen tapped the COMMs button or however it worked. "You guys are seeing this too, right?"

He nodded and then found himself a window to go look at. He immediately spotted one of the bodies as soon as he looked out. "This one's got electrical burns... that's quite unusual for a victim from a nebula... something else must've happened before hand."
Avatar
Cadet Sauk Tral | OPS BOT 01-May-22 09:47 PM
Sauk hung back by the doorway, unsure of what to do. Nothing in his three years of training had prepared him for dead bodies in space on a mission to chart a nebula. He was probably holding Shoe a bit too tight…but she didn’t protest. He just kept his gaze away from the windows. Away from the windows. Away from the…

Ensign Eshen K'Tann | CMD BOT 01-May-22 09:50 PM
Oh shit, there were windows in here too. Eshen glanced over to Sauk as he replied, "Electrical burns... Maybe they were handling something in Engineering? Or there was a shock all over the ship or station because of some fault, and everyone near the consoles got fried?"
Avatar
Ensign Rousseau Avignon | MED BOT 01-May-22 09:54 PM
He went and pulled a flashlight out of his doctors bag. "It must've been more then that... There must've been a large concentration of electrical energy released from somewhere... perhaps in some kind of EMP? But I'm not an electrical scientist or anything... all I know is this must've been something big."
Avatar
Cadet Sauk Tral | OPS BOT 01-May-22 09:56 PM
Still standing by the door, Sauk was taking Deep Calming Breaths and trying to stay in his Happy Place. He thought of all the good things he could. Jack, Shoe, Marnah, his friends…and then his eyes drifted over to the window and he gasped, frozen in the spot. Before he could stare for too long, Shoe popped her head up and bopped his nose with hers, but the damage was done. He felt numb. (edited)

Eshen felt bad. The threshold between the innocence and awareness of the mortality of others (and therefore oneself) was not an easy one to cross. Not that Eshen had ever seen a real corpse either, but he'd been familiar with his own mortality ever since he nearly died twice in the desert, and Klingon war stories do a good job of acclimatising you to this sort of thing, even if they exaggerate the guts and glory a bit. Then he pressed the Comms button again. "Our doctor reckons there was some big electrical burst, like an EMP or something, on the ship or station or whatever all the debris was. The corpses look fried. You guys came to any similar conclusions? Please reply; it'd be great to confirm you're not all dead too."

[PADD] From: Commander Lewis Myers To: Cadet Sauk Mr. Sauk I've got this uniform that I need decrypting. It was on one of the bodies outside, I assume you've seen them. I hope you all are holding out well over there. (Attached was a photo of a dead body but on its uniform it said something... Sauk would need to figure it out. Luckily the other species inspite of reaching the space age had a undeveloped langauge.)

Cadet Sauk Tral | OPS BOT 01-May-22 10:18 PM
Sauk heard his PADD chime and looked down. Denai. He took a deep, shuddering breath and walked over to a console and sat down in the chair, setting Shoe on top of the desk. He employed his best Vulcan control as he examined the image, but it was hard to ignore the face of the man. This had been a real person, a person with a life and maybe a family and people who loved them- He blinked back tears as he began mentally comparing the writing to other languages he knew. After a couple minutes, he frowned. This writing was most similar…to the language of the Pakled. Well, he wasn’t fluent, but he would do his best to translate. He tapped his commbadge to report his findings to the commander.

Sauk would be able to translate the word to: Bright Sun Power, powering all of Meridian. It must have been some kind of corporate slogan. Though it was shocking that the people from Meridian were all the way here getting power given their lack of technological progress.

Soon, after zooming in only on the words and thinking of this as a homework assignment, a bonus question for extra credit, he was able to figure it out. He wiped it his eyes, trying to get his breathing under control. He was a Starfleet officer…kinda. He should be able to handle a dead body. He double checked his work, trying to make sense of the writing. Some kind of slogan? For solar power, probably…but what had gone wrong?

Ensign Eshen K'Tann | CMD BOT 01-May-22 10:39 PM
Well, that was it. Everyone was dead. Nah, just kidding. They're at least alive enough to to send Sauk pictures of corpses. Eshen was proud of how well Sauk was keeping himself together, and he didn't think it was just because Shoe was there. The boy's mental health was intact! Pity if anything were to happen in the next five seconds that would jeopardise it. (edited)

The power was out. The fucking power was out. They were adrift…in space…and the power was out. He stood upright and bolted from the room, headed for the bridge. He needed to know what was happening. “Jack…please be okay…” He whispered under his breath.

Ensign Eshen K'Tann | CMD BOT 01-May-22 10:40 PM
Eshen: Oh dear. Something jeopardised it. Eshen ran from the room, hoping to find that pilot from before and calm him down a bit so he could fly the ship again. (edited)

Eshen walked into the room and began pressing buttons on the console, trying to initiate scanners. Boop boop boop, technobabble, StarTrekConsoleButtonsFoley.mp3, etcetera.
Avatar
Cadet Sauk Tral | OPS BOT 05-May-22 06:36 PM
Sauk looked over the console, noticing that some of the buttons were powered off. He realized now that Eshen might not be able to press the initiate scan button. He went over to another console and examined the currently working buttons.

Ensign Eshen K'Tann | CMD BOT 05-May-22 06:44 PM
"Anything functioning properly over there? This console is a mess."
Avatar
Narrator BOT 05-May-22 06:47 PM
A lot of the systems weren't working properly, but there was one semi-functional console.
Avatar
Ensign Eshen K'Tann | CMD BOT 05-May-22 06:50 PM
Probably the one Sauk was at already, so Eshen stood next to him and looked to see if there were any useful buttons to press.
Avatar
Cadet Sauk Tral | OPS BOT 05-May-22 06:51 PM
“I think…this one is the most functional console,” Sauk concluded, glancing briefly at the others in the room. “Do your thing, Mr. Command Ensign,”
Avatar
Ensign Eshen K'Tann | CMD BOT 05-May-22 07:09 PM
"Please, Mr. Command Ensign was my father. Call me Ferrufino, 'cause I'm about to do some Consoling." Eshen played the console like a keyboard, looking for something he could do adjacent to scanning or finding out the coordinates of the ship. Hopefully this wouldn't be the end of his career.

Sauk laughed softly despite the situation, looking over Eshen’s shoulder. “Maybe you could try scanning the planet? Just to make sure they survived?” He suggested. Shoe blinked gratefully at Eshen. Her Friend was laughing, that was a very good thing.

Ensign Eshen K'Tann | CMD BOT 05-May-22 07:16 PM
Eshen smiled back at them both. "If we can reach it through all the Nebula." He searched the planet for life signs - heat signatures, energy signatures, anything weird.
Avatar
Narrator BOT 05-May-22 07:41 PM
The sensors weren’t able to reach the planet- short range scanners were all the Sebastion had working.
Avatar
Ensign Eshen K'Tann | CMD BOT 05-May-22 07:44 PM
"The ship's scanners won't do it - she doesn't have the range. Maybe I'll see if there's anything interesting around us other than the corpses and debris." Eshen initiated short-range scans.
Avatar
Cadet Sauk Tral | OPS BOT 05-May-22 07:46 PM
“I guess the nebula is causing too much interference to get to the planet,” Sauk sighed. He would feel a lot better if he was able to count the life signs and assure himself that they were the right number, but that wouldn’t be happening, apparently.

Narrator BOT 08-May-22 12:11 AM
The faint sign of another ship appeared on what limited sensors the Sebastion had.

The Sebastion wobbled slightly as it was seemingly locked onto by a tractor beam.

[Comms] "What was that? Were we hit bt something?"
Avatar
Narrator BOT 08-May-22 02:04 PM
The Sebastion began moving in an unknown direction, dragged by the tractor beam. It was only a matter of time before multiple shuttlecraft showed up and began helping to push it towards its destination, the Eventide.
Avatar
Ensign Eshen K'Tann | CMD BOT 08-May-22 04:19 PM
Eshen stopped playing tic-tac-toe with Sauk and got on COMMs again to tell Renakir they were getting tic-tac-towed. "We're getting tractored! Thank Kah'less and Surak both."

The Sebastion was soon forcefully docked to one of the Eventide's evacuation corridors, and damage control teams were quick to cut open its airlock so the crew could leave. The occupants of the Sebastion were greeted by Medical officers to check them over, and were quickly evacuated onto the Eventide via #ship-airlocks.
